Description of the employer

The CLSC is on the Naskapi territory of Kawawachikamach, a region rich in nature and culture. It is responsible for planning, coordinating, organizing and providing health and social services to the Naskapi community. It also collaborates in the health care of the entire population of the region. Enjoy the marvelous mountain landscapes in all seasons! Brief description of functions

Person who evaluates, designs, defines, and implements treatment programs using various therapeutic modalities based on creative methods. He or she may use art materials, music, or drama, according to the theoretical and practical foundations of his or her discipline, to meet the individual and collective needs of the users. He or she writes reports, assesses user progress, and records it in the file. He or she participates in promotion and prevention activities. He or she collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and community partners and participates in promotion and prevention activities.

Specific functions and requirements

The art therapist must be able to develop therapeutic service programs and offer consultation and support services through artistic means, as well as art therapy sessions in groups and/or dyads, or exceptionally individually. He or she will work in various environments, such as schools, daycares, shelters for abused women and men, senior homes, community centers, at home, or any other setting deemed appropriate by the Naskapi population and the Naskapi CLSC. 

Under the authority of the Head of Social and Community Services, his or her main functions are:  

• Plan and implement programming to meet the needs of the entire Naskapi population facing adaptation difficulties;  

• Encourage creative expression through their ability to use artistic materials, the creative process, psychological and psychotherapeutic theories and techniques;  

• Prepare and intervene during art therapy sessions;  

• Develop creative activities that will stimulate and support the needs of users, such as stress and emotion management and increasing self-esteem, etc.;  

• Develop creative activities that will promote communication and improve interpersonal relationships;  

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members involved in the follow-up to contribute through observations;  

• Contribute to a collaborative approach with community resources;  

• Observe and evaluate progress according to established objectives;  

• Document interventions, collect certain statistics, keep progress notes, and write an intervention report at the end of the follow-up, as well as any other forms or reports according to the establishment's policies and procedures;  

• Participate in meetings or committees where their presence is required;  

• Plan, organize, and participate in psychosocial prevention-promotion activities, when required, in collaboration with social and community service team members and community partners;  

• Participate in necessary purchases for the accomplishment of their work;  

• Adapt intervention techniques and strategies in respect of Naskapi culture and values;  

• Any other tasks requested by his or her immediate supervisor.

 

REQUIREMENTS  

• Must hold a Master's degree in Art Therapy;  

• Must be a member of the Quebec Art Therapy Association;  

• Experience working in remote areas (an asset);  

• Proficiency in spoken and written English;  

• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;  

• Interest in sharing knowledge and experiences with colleagues;  

• Shows initiative, organization, and autonomy;  

• Demonstrates open-mindedness towards cultural differences, interest, and empathy towards others;  

• Good ability to adapt to a new environment;  

• Able to adapt to and respect the administrative and legislative modalities of the health and social services network;  

• Valid driver's license. 

Working conditions

• Hourly rate to be discussed;  

• Availability to travel to the territory of Kawawachikamach several times a year, for stays of at least one week each time (dates to be discussed);  

• Furnished accommodation provided, all-inclusive (high-speed fiber optic internet), if located more than 50 km from your residence;  

• Paid transportation.
