Brief description of functions
The CLSC is seeking candidates capable of providing dental hygiene services. The dental hygienist collaborates in various screening programs. They may assist the dentist in the performance of their duties. They apply and teach dental hygiene techniques related to prevention and dental care. They apply topical anti-cariogenic agents. They perform dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing, carry out preliminary oral examinations and medical histories.
They place, sculpt, and finish restorations and take impressions for study models. They maintain inventory and place orders for dental supplies.
Specific functions and requirements
The dental hygienist of Kawawachikamach will meet the preventive needs of the entire Naskapi population. The integrated-duty dental hygienist will work at the Naskapi CLSC dental clinic. More specifically, but not exhaustively, he/she will:
Perform the services included in the dental care package offered to the population, according to the responsibilities described in Law 15 of 2020, such as:
- Develop a preventive treatment plan and present it to the patient
- Scaling
- Application of sealant agents
- Caries control (e.g., silver diamine fluoride)
- Minimally invasive techniques (SMART: silver diamine fluoride and glass ionomers)
- Participate in purchasing required for the performance of duties
- Support/train community health professionals
- Sterilize used equipment
- Continuously assess population needs and adapt accordingly
Requirements
- Must hold a college diploma (DEC) in Dental Hygiene Techniques from a school recognized by the competent ministry;
- Must be a member of the Ordre professionnel des hygiénistes dentaires du Québec;
- Two (2) years of relevant experience (an asset);
- Work experience in a remote region (an asset);
- Proficiency in spoken and written English;
- Shows initiative, resourcefulness, and autonomy;
- Demonstrates openness to cultural differences, interest, and empathy toward others;
- Good ability to adapt to a new environment;
- Valid driver’s license;
- Knowledge of minimally invasive techniques (an asset);
- Any other combination of training and experience may be considered.
Working conditions
- Casual position, part-time with flexible schedule;
- Hourly rate: $27.71 to $39.88;
- Day shift; evening shift and possible weekend work;
- Isolation premium of $227.69/week for a 35-hour week (without dependents) or $401.36/week for a 35-hour week (with dependents);
- Retention premium starting at $6,050 annually for an employee with less than one year of continuous service at the Naskapi CLSC;
- Cargo premium of $83.75/week for a 35-hour week (per adult and child aged 12 and over), $41.88/week for a 35-hour week (per child under 12);
- Furnished housing provided, all included (high-speed fiber-optic Internet), if located more than 50 km from your residence;
- Paid transportation;
- 3 or 4 annual trips depending on status;
- Group insurance plan;
- Defined benefit pension plan (RREGOP).
