Description of the employer
The CLSC is located in the Naskapi territory of Kawawachikamach, a region rich in nature and culture. It is responsible for planning, coordinating, organizing, and delivering health and social services to the Naskapi community. Brief description of functions
Under the supervision of the Head of medical services, person who, in the day center, carries out a range of tasks aimed at supporting and assisting the user and their family, or compensating for their limitations in carrying out activities of daily living or domestic life. They also promote the user’s integration and social participation in individual and community activities.
They ensure the user’s hygiene, well-being, comfort, supervision, and general needs. They install certain devices or provide certain invasive and non-invasive care to support activities of daily living, for which they have received training. They may distribute and administer medications. They may also prepare meals and perform household tasks.
They inform managers and team members of their observations regarding the needs of the user and their family. In collaboration with other professionals, they take part in identifying the user’s needs and in developing and implementing the service or intervention plan.
Specific functions and requirements
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Activity Participation Assistance
- Assists seniors in preparing for and participating in group activities, leisure activities, and personal care (e.g., hygiene, dressing, mobility).
Observation and Vigilance
- Observes seniors, reports relevant observations to the team, and ensures their safety and comfort.
Meal Assistance
- Assists seniors with eating, distributes snacks and meals, and ensures they are properly served.
Activity Support
- Helps prepare the premises, organize spaces, and support the delivery of activities.
Accompaniment
- Accompanies seniors during outings, supports them during activities, and provides emotional support.
Communication
- Listens to seniors, communicates their needs to the team, and participates in communication with families.
Teamwork
- Collaborates with the day center activity leader, nurses, other professionals, and various partners to provide coordinated services to seniors.
Other Tasks
- Writes observation and progress notes, and prepares statistics if required.
- Actively participates in ongoing training and supervision.
- Serves as an active member of the advisory committee for the Naskapi Day Center and seniors’ residence.
- Participates in meetings with the multidisciplinary social and community services team, as needed.
- Provides support for translation, as required.
- Performs any other duties requested by the immediate supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Combination of relevant education and experience will be considered;
- Fluency in oral Naskapi;
- Fluency in oral and written English;
- Knowledge of Naskapi traditions, beliefs and customs;
- Computer literate (Outlook, Word, Myles);
- Training as orderly (PAB) will be considered an asset;
- Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Program (SPHMP) training will be considered an asset;
- Experience with elders would be an asset;
- Genuine care for seniors and a desire to contribute to their well-being;
- Ability to communicate and adapt communication to the needs of elders;
- Patience, empathy, and good listening skills;
- Good physical health;
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;
- Sense of responsibility, initiative, organization and good judgment;
- Able to work autonomously as well as with others;
- Valid driver license;
- Reliable.
Priority will be given to beneficiaries of the Northeastern Quebec Agreement
Working conditions
- Hourly rate $28,65;
- Day shift, schedule of 35 hours/week, from Monday to Friday;
- Isolation premium of $227,69/week of 35 hours (without dependent) or $401,36/week of 35 hours (with dependent); paid each pay period according to hours worked;
- Retention premium starting at $1,513 annually for an employee with less than one year of continuous service at the Naskapi CLSC;
- Cargo premium $83.75/week of 35 hours (adult and child 12 years and older), $41.88/week of 35 hours (child under 12);
- Group insurance;
- Pension plan (RREGOP).
