Brief description of functions
A professional who assesses nutritional status, determines, and ensures the implementation of nutrition intervention strategies to adapt dietary intake to individual needs in order to maintain or restore health.
Participates in clinical teaching.
Specific functions and requirements
In a context marked by a significant increase in chronic diseases, particularly diabetes, the nutritionist will play a key role in the transformation and development of prevention and chronic disease management services within the community.
The mandate aims to implement an integrated approach combining clinical interventions, community-based actions, and interdisciplinary collaboration in order to achieve sustainable improvements in population health.
This approach emphasizes practical, relational, and continuous interventions that are firmly rooted in the cultural and community reality, focusing on the consistency of interventions and the development of longterm relationships of trust.
1. Clinical Interventions and Client Support
- Assess clients’ nutritional status and provide follow-up, particularly in relation to diabetes and chronic diseases.
- Provide concrete and tailored support (meal planning, glycemic management, prevention of complications).
- Support the development of clients’ self-management capacities by promoting a practical, personalized approach adapted to their life context.
2. Community Presence and Community-Based Approach
- Ensure a regular and active presence within the community (CLSC, school, arena, community events, etc.).
- Develop and facilitate practical activities (collective kitchens, interactive workshops, field-based activities).
- Co-develop activities with community members to foster engagement, cultural relevance, and peer support.
- Promote environments that encourage dialogue, mutual support, and community engagement.
3. Program and Activity Development
- Plan, implement, and evaluate prevention and health promotion activities related to healthy lifestyle habits.
- Participate in the development of structured initiatives in nutrition and chronic disease management.
- Contribute to the development of educational tools adapted to the community.
- Integrate approaches that promote hands-on learning, autonomy, and the sustainability of behaviour changes.
4. Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Work in close collaboration with nurses, physicians, kinesiologists, community workers, and other partners.
- Participate in the implementation of an integrated approach between clinical and community-based services.
- Contribute to the coordination of chronic disease prevention efforts.
REQUIREMENTS AND PROFILE SOUGHT
REQUIREMENTS
- Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition;
- Must be a member of the Ordre professionnel des diététistes du Québec;
- Two (2) years of relevant experience (an asset);
- Experience working in a remote region (an asset);
- Proficiency in spoken and written English;
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;
- Valid driver’s licence.

Working conditions
- Hourly rate based on experience (between $31.65/hour and $56.08/hour);
- Day shift;
- Regional disparity premium of $233.38 per week (without dependants) or $411.40 per week (with dependants);
- Cargo premium of $83.75 per week (adults and children aged 12 and over), $41.88 per week (children under 12 years of age);
- Retention premium starting at $6,050 annually for employees with less than one year of continuous service at the CLSC Naskapi;
- Furnished housing provided, all utilities included (high-speed fibre-optic Internet), if located more than 50 km from your place of residence;
- Moving and storage expenses reimbursed by the CLSC;
- Paid travel day and travel expenses;
- Four (4) annual trips for full-time employees with “no dependants” status: full-time work schedule averages 8–9 weeks of work followed by 4 weeks of leave;
- Three (3) annual trips for full-time employees with “dependant(s)” status: full-time work schedule averages 12–13 weeks of work followed by 4–5 weeks of leave;
- Possibility of obtaining a Northern leave if you are currently employed within the health and social services network;
- Group insurance plan;
- Defined benefit pension plan (RREGOP).
